π Fiat Ducato Starter Motor Problems
17. Feb 25, 2013. #1. Hi. My 2007 ducato 2.2 100 van sometimes makes a whirring noise instead of starting, then next turn it does start. Am i right in suspecting the starter or solenoid and how how difficult is it to change the starter motor in terms of access and location of bolts etc? Many thanks. T.

When the engine is running, the alternator will be charging and about 14V will be present at the D+ terminal. You can check this with a multimeter set to volts. One set of relay contacts will close and connect the leisure battery and starter battery positives together so that the leisure battery is also charged.
Test Procedure: Safely disable the ignition or fuel pump so the engine wonβt start. Connect one voltmeter lead to a clean spot on the starter case, and then the other voltmeter lead to the negative battery terminal. Set the meter to the one volt DC scale. With key-on-engine-off, voltage must not exceed 0.1 volts.
The main terminal of the starter is connected directly to the battery on most modern starters with built in solenoid / contactors. Thus ther is little difference in there or the battery. It will give slightly higher voltage to the starter as there is one less bit of cable. On very modern vehicles with stop-start, intellegent batteries or
Maybe some experienced Ducato 1990 techs can help me to figure this out: When I turn the key to 'on', there is missing only - the headlights - the cockpit panel lights All other visible electrical appliances seem to work fine. When I turn the key to 'start', the starter motor works allright, but the engine doesn't come on.
